John Marson's Harp Prize for Outstanding Musicianship
I am very happy and proud to annouce that I am the joint-winner of the 2014 John Marson's Harp Prize for Outstanding Musicianship. This prize is awarded by Gabriella Dall'Olio, Head of Harp at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, as well as by Frances Kelly. The prize reward the best student of the harp class at Trinity Laban throughout the whole year. It consists in a cash prize, as well as a solo recital in world-renowned venue St Martin-in-the-Fields.
This year, the recital at St Martin-in-the-Fields will be held on the 13th of March 2015. I will perform there Henriette Renié's Pièce Symphonique and Manuel de Falla's Spanish Dance (transcribed for solo harp by Marcel Grandjany). I will also play a duo by John Marson with Glenda Allaway, the other recipient of this year's prize, in his honour.
John Marson was a former principal harpist in the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra, and performed with many of the greatest musicians of his time as a free-lancer. He was also a keen teacher and composer. He died in 2007, giving a legacy to Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. A prize has thus been named in his honour.
